The Washington Post doesn’t need to speculate or imply or have suspicions, though. Saturnalia arrived early this year in the form of a lengthy article , based on on-the-record information from former WND staff and internal emails. posted on 6/20/2015 by the Salt City Sinner On Wednesday night, Dylann Storm Roof allegedly entered a historic Black church in Charleston, South Carolina. He sat through most of the prayer meeting at Emanuel A.M.E. Church and then opened fire with a handgun, killing nine people including a sitting South Carolina state senator who was also the pastor of the church. Roof was motivated by hatred of Black people, and has since reportedly confessed to committing the crime in an attempt to start a race war. In the wake of such an outburst of deadly violence, I was not sure what to expect from right wing media, be it Fox News, talk radio, or the open, reeking sewer that is the conservative internet, including borderline white nationalist sites like Joseph Farah's WND (formerly World Net Daily). A braggart , a hypocritical and paranoid conspiracy theorist, a self-proclaimed prophet , a “former left-wing radical,” take your pick. Like many on the left and the right, he also fails what a friend of mine calls “the ideological Turing test,” which said friend describes as a measure of the ability of a person to accurately describe the arguments and stances of someone they strongly disagree with on their opponent's terms. There's something about Farah I haven't figured out. He turns a tidy profit at WND through a publishing imprint, a magazine, DVDs (mostly Christian end-times gobbledegook), advertising at WND.com (mostly survivalist supplies and assorted weirdness), a truly impressive email list, which he regularly rents to the Republican Party for outreach purposes, and now even an end-times oriented 'Holy Land Cruise....

It is by this point quite apparent, I would think, that I have a low-grade obsession with Joseph Farah's WND (formerly “WorldNetDaily”), which I think is probably the most insane right-wing website on planet Earth – certainly the most insane site that generates such a volume of traffic, anyway. It's impossible to know how many WND readers are there looking for their version of legitimate “news” and how many are, like me, lookie-loos attracted to the most ghastly political freak-show this side of Alex Jones, but the numbers are pretty impressive (1.680 in traffic worldwide, 454 in the US, according to Alexa ). The sun is up and another glorious early Fall day is upon us here in Salt Lake City. I've posted before about Joseph Farah and his "news" website, World Net Daily, which is perhaps the fringiest main-stream (or most main-stream fringe) conservative website on the entire internet. It has an impressively huge audience. WND is best known for initially stoking (and even now continuing to stoke ) the fires of the "Birther" conspiracy theory, but today WND's editor-in-chief, Joseph Farah, tees off on a slightly stranger target for a conservative newsman: Mitt Romney and John Hunstman .
